Der ungarische Elvis-Club kämpft seit Jahren für eine Elvis-Statue. Sie soll mitten im Elvis-Presley-Park in Budapest aufgestellt werden. In der Angelegenheit wurden bereits Gelder, die zur Finanzierung des Projekts erforderlich sind, gesammelt und Gespräche mit der Stadtbezirksverwaltung aufgenommen.
Priscilla Presley erfuhr von den Organisatoren des Budapester Konzerts aber nicht nur von diesen Anstrengungen der ungarischen Fans, sondern auch davon, dass überhaupt ein Park in der ungarischen Hauptstadt nach ihrem verstorbenen Ehemann benannt wurde.
Dies sei „unglaublich“, drückte Priscilla Presley ihre Freude aus. Damit werde gezeigt, wie sehr Elvis die Welt beeinflusst hat. Obwohl er bereits seit über 40 Jahren nicht mehr bei uns ist, hat er mit seiner Musik und Persönlichkeit eine Spur hinterlassen, die von Dauer ist. Sie hätte nie gedacht, dass Jahrzehnte nach seinem Tod in Ungarn ein Platz nach ihm benannt und hier vielleicht bald sogar eine Statue von ihm errichtet wird, sagte die Witwe, die zu den Mitbegründern der Elvis Presley Enterprises gehört, die das Erbe des Weltstars pflegt. Die Stadt Budapest beschloss 2011, einen öffentlichen Platz in Buda nach Elvis Presley zu benennen, seitdem ist er auch Ehrenbürger der Stadt. Grund hierfür war, dass die vielleicht einflussreichste Popikone des 20. Jahrhunderts nicht nur Bedürftigen half, sondern – was in Ungarn unvergessen ist – in einer Fernsehsendung auch auf die 56er Revolution hinwies und um Spendengelder für die Ungarn bat, die sich in der Folge in einer schwierigen Lage befanden.

– Ez hihetetlen. Ebből is látszik, hogy milyen hatással volt Elvis a világra. Bár már több mint 40 éve nincs köztünk, zenéjével, személyiségével olyan nyomot hagyott, amelyet nem lehet kitörölni.
